Samuel Faye, BKA Sam Faye, is a rapper & songwriter of Senegalese descent established in Montreal & active in the Québec hip hop scene for over 20 years in various projects & events.
You might have known him as ½ of the duo Apocalypse, under the pseudonym “Kalibre”, for his projects with D-Track, the hip hop, jazz and funk collective “GPE” for which he was the MC, or even maybe Petite Papa. You’ve likely seen him perform at some of Montreal’s most iconic venues like Foufounes Électriques, Bobards, Club Balatou, Bleury bar, Bootlegger and many other intimate venues, as well as bigger ones like the iconic Metropolis as support for Oxmo Puccino. In 2016 though, he decides to take his collection of unreleased songs & release a project under the alias Sam Faye for the first time, called “+” and in 2018, he reaches the semi-finals of the Francouvertes, earning the opportunity to represent Québec for a 3-week tour of China alongside D-Track & DJ Eazy EL Dee.
Known for his well-thought-out texts with a splash of humour, he is well regarded in the Québec hip hop scene for his MC talents, his infectious energy and for the quality of his writing, which also got him the attention of the Hell for Breakfast team, making it a no-brainer decision to release “Escales” (2021) and “Des arbres et des avions” (2022) together.
Since releasing his compilation of interlude-like songs “Escales”, he’s performed at CRANIUM representing French rap for the first time since the creation of the festival, on top of performing at the “Festival international de la chanson de Granby”, and supporting Lary Kidd in December of 2021.
